Theatre Play: The Swimming Instructor

Oh ya, wanted to share a theatre play I have watched on Sunday.

Dear Ivy is so sweet to invite me to watch this play with her. It was at the Action Theatre. Titled “The Swimming Instructor”. I went without knowing what the story is really like, except that I will be watching hunky men. Hmm, ok lor, though I am not the kind who will go gaga over bodies.. But see some of these guys might make me more appreciative of men who take care of themselves well?!

Well, a dark story that I did not expect from looking at the title and the stage presentation.

There were only 3 characters for this play, 2 hunkies and 1 beauty. One swimming instructor, one young creative director who goes for swim and one lonely beauty having eyes for the swimming instructor. The swimming instructor is not handsome, but he got a really nice body.. but overall still cool. The young creative director is cute with dimple! The beauty looks like she is of mixed blood..

The story goes with the swimming instructor giving up his dream for Olympic competition after his fiancée left him and his best friend drowned. The lonely beauty came from a rich but broken family with her dad bringing girl home who is younger than her and her mum bringing home dance instructor to piss each other off. Makes me wonder why do man and woman get together? She is lonely and is attracted by the instructor. The young creative director goes to the pool for his regular laps and got to know this lonely girl and gets trapped between the girl who wants his help to date the instructor and the instructor trying to use him as a shield from going out with the girl. One day, the director’s grandpa died and the director is sad as he feels he has let his grandpa down the most for he knows his grandson is a gay. As he reveals his embarrassment to the instructor that he is a gay, the instructor reveals the truth that his best friend commit suicide because of his unreciprocated love for the instructor. Both try to kiss each other with the director backing off for fear that the instructor is taking him to be his best friend. The next day, the instructor is found dead in the pool…

Makes me wonder.. What’s the problem nowadays?
